Just when you are sure print is dead, you find yourself in a hospital waiting room browsing through a (“take home!”) copy of Diabetes. At first I was surprised that there was an entire magazine devoted to a disease, only to turn the thing over and find that there are specialty issues of something called Health Monitor devoted to just about every conceivable disease. So there is an Arthritis Magazine somewhere out there, and an Overactive Bladder Magazine. There is a Fibromyalgia magazine.
I can’t seem to find a listing for these guys in Writers Market, so I don’t know how much Asthma pays per word, or whether Anxiety pays a kill fee. But my writerly curiosity is aroused. I can’t explain it entirely, but the existence of Diabetes Magazine warms my heart (not heartburn, that’s another magazine). Nice to know there is still a thriving world of print matter out there big enough to support something this specialized.
I am subscribing. Hey, it’s free, compliments of my health provider.

That’s good news!
And if you consume enough processed sugar, you are all but guaranteed a lifetime subscription.
The subscription is free. The diabetes not so much.
Let me know if there is a magazine for bipolar.
