A nagging injury, and a Valentine’s Day lesson

By nagging injury I mean a cut on my finger that is taking a while to heal, but I also mean that I acquired the injury while nagging.  I had just used a vitamin cutter (a little plastic box with a razor blade in the lid) to slice a multivitamin in half, which I had been nagging my partner for not taking every day.  I reached in to get a part of the vitamin that was stuck in the lid, forgetting that what it was stuck to was a razor blade.  So I sliced my index finger open.  Had I not been focused on annoying the love of my life, I might have avoided injury.  He lovingly treated the wound, despite my protests against alcohol sterilization and (perhaps melodramatic) worry that I would need stitches.  The cut is healing nicely.  And it has also been a gentle reminder that “love does not seek its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.”
